The origin of the castle dates back to Jan van Riebeeck, who arrived here in 1652. Construction of the building started in 1666 and it took about 30 years to complete the pentagon-shaped structure. The stone blocks that were used were brought in from Holland and today it is the oldest building in South Africa.
The Key Ceremony takes place at 10am and the Change of Guards at 12 o’clock from Monday to Friday.
